Beautiful Track layout - Buddh International Circuit.

The seats in the Grandstand and other sections are Tri-colored and off excellent quality. The spectator blocks are placed stratigically and offer the maximum view of the track from any point. Tri-colored pattern of the spectator blocks remind you that the place you are at is indeed in INDIA, although it looks and feels like somewhere abroad.

Track Surface.

Then there’s the surface of the track which is one of the smoothest around; pretty ironical, considering we have what are probably the worst roads in the world. F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan says this is one of the smoothest tracks he’s driven on and speeds as high as 320kph should be possible. The Red Bull car did sound fantastic being driven around here, especially with all the elevation changes artificially built into the track. The SLS AMG from Mercedes also did some splendid laps going sideways at every corner. The circuit is lined with the latest Tecpro barriers, which are much safer than a bunch of old tyres bound together

The other thing you can’t miss is the main grandstand and the Pit Area , The structure is massive and is divided in two floors. Grandstand offers the best view for the spectators with the Starting grid and Pit area right in front. The S.O.S team also had a good look from various other stands, Picnic stand which is one of the cheapest at Rs 2500 offers some of the best views being situated at awesome locations. Bernie Ecclestone, President and CEO of the Formula One Group stated: “For the first time in the history of Formula One in the United States, a world-class facility will be purpose-built to host the event. It was thirty years ago that the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix™ was last held on a purpose-built permanent road course circuit in Watkins Glen, NY (1961-1980), which enjoyed great success. Since then, Formula One has been hosted by Long Beach, Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas and Phoenix all on temporary street circuits. Indianapolis joined the ranks of host cities in 2000 when they added a road course inside the famed oval. Lewis Hamilton won the last Formula 1 United States Grand Prix™ in 2007, signalling the end to eight years at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This however, will be the first time a facility is constructed from the ground up specifically for Formula One in the US.”

the Formula One driver David Coulthard and Red Bull recently headed down to Austin to display their excitement over the sport’s return to American soil. Coulthard and his Red Bull racer got the chance to play with a few cowboys on Red McCombs’ ranch before taking to public streets in the F1 car. That included a quick stop for doughnuts in front of the capitol building before heading off to the dirt bones of the new track for a little fun.

The inaugural race will have five events in Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Bangalore J Balamurugan, Director of Spitfire said.

Essentially a 400-metre maximum acceleration run, drag racing is a popular night street culture in Delhi, Bangalore and other metros. Illegal drags are a huge underground movement in the country. To hold a drag race, the organisers need to first obtain the permission of the police. Night drag racing, obviously, flouts the rule, which makes the sport illegal. Police hold that people often place bets on winners and losers.

“Unlike other forms of racing, a drag race is one where regular cars and motorcycles with no modifications also can take part. This was an ideal form of motor racing for novices to take part,” S Mandeep Singh Dhingra of Speedway Motorsports said.

Clearly, speed thrills. “The youth identify with the speed, slick technology and glamour that drag races stand for. The sport has gained a phenomenal fan following in four years,” says Hormaz Sorabjee, editor, Autocar India.

Sorabjee should know. When Autocar India organised the country’s first drag race meet in Mumbai in 2002, it received a little over 100 entries. “Barely a thousand people showed up to watch the race,” recalls Sorabjee. That’s all in the past. The last drag race held in Mumbai ? Speed Run, 2005 ? received a runaway 530 entries. Some 30,000 people came to watch the speed sport. “We had trouble controlling the crowds,” says Sorabjee.

The inaugural season of the FMSCI Indian National Drag Racing Championship will have five rounds, with the first event scheduled at the Phase II Outer Ring Road (Kandla Koyo) in Hyderabad this weekend (August 13 and 14).

Coimbatore will host the second and fourth round of the event (September 24, 25 and November 19, 20). The third round of the series will be held in Bangalore (October 15, 16) as per the provisional schedule with the finale in Hyderabad again in December.

The series will be held following the rules of drag racing conducted by the FIA, which also include strict safety measures as well as various categories for the cars and bikes involved.

The National series will have classes for Indian and foreign-made cars, both stock and modified versions, as well as separate races for cars running with forced induction and nitrous boosts. The bikes will be divided according to their engine size (cc) with a separate class for Yezdi and a special Indian Open category.

Since stock cars can be used for racing without much modifications or roll cages, the sport is less expensive and accessible to more people. The FMSCI president says this is exactly why the federation is promoting drag racing.

The Beat Diesel arrives with a lot of hopes riding on it. The folks at GM India have put together a video explaining the salient features of the Chevrolet Beat TDCi’s XSDE common rail turbo diesel engine.

The XSDE turbo diesel engine is derived from the 1,248cc, four cylinder Litr Multijet Diesel engine. In three cylinder form, the engine displaces 936cc and produces 57 Bhp with 157 Nm of torque. The strong point of this engine, will be the high fuel economy. The Chevrolet Beat thus becomes the second most frugal diesel car in India (After the Indica eV2) with an ARAI certified 24 KMPL mileage for the Beat Diesel. The diesel engine has good low end torque and driveability, which means that the Chevrolet Beat Diesel will be a great city driver.

Beat TDCi Smartech Engine

The Chevrolet Beat Diesel engine also uses a chain drive instead of the cam belt which is a good thing considering the fact that, you don’t need to replace the cam chain for the life time of the engine, unlike the cam belt, which requires a replacement after a certain period of driving the car. General Motors India also claims that the Diesel engine of the Beat has been optimized to reduce vibrations and from the initial impressions from the reviews, is that the engine is vibe free. A good thing indeed, especially for a three pot engine which is usually prone to vibrations.

Porsche Design Hookah

The Porsche Design Shisha combines high-quality materials such as aluminum, stainless steel and glass with the unique design approach of the luxury brand. “Puristic and stylish at the same time,” as the company claims. The Porsche Design Shisha/Hookah is made in Germany and stands at a height of 55 centimeters. It only shows a discreet branding on the aluminum top of the Shisha and comes with a long flexible Smoking pipe made out of TecFlex material, which is also used for the classic Porsche Design TecFlex writing tools.

The luxury Shisha is to come to the worldwide Porsche Design stores from end of July. It will be available with immediate effect exclusively at the lately opened Porsche Design shop-in-shop at the world famous Harrods department store in London, Knightsbridge.

The itinerary was charted and the Plan was made. Different Meeting points we decided upon so that none of the members feel alone or lost or get late. The PLAN was to hit the National Highway 1 till karnal, an industrial city in Haryana. Now you may ask whats so special about a drive to Karnal. Well the answer to that question is the awesomest Paranthas ere on the highway at ZHILMIL Dhabha.

Starting at 9am from Noida

The Call Time for everyone was set at 10:00AM at Karnal Bypass. Everyone from East, West, North and South Delhi had to converge here at 10:00 AM Well that was the Plan, we reached the bypass at 10:30ish and found Dilpreet and Saurabh already waiting there with Harsh and Abhijeet. The cars present at the Bypass were as follows

The Convoy from Noida and South Delhi arrived at the bypass at 10:30ish.. due to certain unavoidable laziness by some people (hehe) The cars in this Convoy consisted of the following

After the customary High fives and what up’s we all left for Karnal with the pedal to the metal on the newly built  excellent national highway 1. Everyone seemed to be testing their MAX speeds enjoying the awesome highway The weather wasn’t really on our side, the Monsoon drive didn’t get its share of the monsoon. The sun shined bright and it was hot and humid. In about sometime we hit the Panipat BYPASS, 3-4 Kilometer stretch of expressway bypassing the whole panipat city. I found everyone zip zap zooming on this bypass. Excellent piece of road we must say.

Loudbox and GTi

Soon we found ourselves at ZHILMIL Dhabha at Karnal. Everyone had high expectations from the Chicken Paranthas since there was too much Hype built around by the S.O.S admins (hehe). We all rushed into the Air conditioned part of the DHABHA. Phew… 5 Tables we joined to form a large medivial dining table with Kenny sitting on one end like ummm.. nevermind. Just as we were breathing in the stale AC air, we met Gagz Anand, A fellow Souls of Speed member who drove all the way from Yamuna Nagar in his spruced up wagonR to be a part of the Monsoon Drive. cheers gagz!!

We were twenty hungry people sitting on 5 tables joined togather. The waiter went crazy taking orders for the paranthas, Daal and refreshments. After the first round of paranthas and burps Jasdeep suggested that the Dhabha serves excellent Chicken Curry. Errm !! Considering we were twenty we decided to order 3 full chicken curry and 1 chilly chicken. Do you think it will be enough for 20 Guys?

EPIC Chicken Parantha

Well what did we know, One dish of Chicken Curry was good enough for all of us, and we had ordered Three. Cancelled the Other two orders phew..!! The bill of the EPIC lunch came to Rs 5000 inclusive of Drinks, Epic Paranthas , Daal , Sabji etc… Rs 250 per head was the bill. Gagz Anand got Cadbury Chocolates for all the members and that served as the dessert

Chicken Curry

Few of the members suggested going towards Karnal for a Photoshoot, So we headed across the road towards the Karnal Lake. Here we parked our cars and the shutter bugs had their time clicking. It was too hot for boating so we quickly wrapped up the Lake visit and ….

After this we headed towards Karnal Haveli , Apparently the lunch wasn’t over yet …. Harsh and Abhijeet had returned to delhi from ZHILMIL itself. With the Sun on steroids,  we quickly parked our cars and ran inside. Again Three tables were joined and the Desserts were ordered. They were, Jalebi’s , Kheer and Kulfi Faluda. Jalebi’s here were different , Very small and crunchy. The Kheer was warm and not cold … yum anyhow. Kulfi was awesome.

By Now our stomachs were full and laziness was setting in, therefore we decided to head back to Delhi. The speeds were slow, AC was on full… no more speeding like the Morning …. we all crossed the delhi border safely except one of our fellow members Dilpreet who got challaned for tinted glasses. A deal was cracked and a settlement was reached and Dilpreet was soon back on the road.

We reached where all started from The Karnal Bypass. After a Quick goodbyes we all headed home, with great memories of the Monsoon Drive. And some great ideas and plans for the nest Epic S.O.S Drive.

The FIA, motorsport’s governing body, has confirmed that Formula One racing will move to new engine regulations in 2014, with the current 2.4 litre V8s being replaced by more efficient 1.6 litre, turbocharged V6s.

The new energy recovery systems (ERS) will replace the current kinetic energy recovery systems (KERS) and are expected to be more powerful. Combined with the legalisation of turbocharging, they will ensure overall power outputs remain similar to current levels, despite an anticipated drop in the permitted rev limit.

The overall package, then, marks a little bit of history repeating. Until they were dropped in 1989, many of the cars on the grid were powered by 1.5-liter turbocharged V6 engines.
